There is so much software available that it is difficult to decide what you want to use. These are my personal reccomendations.

Browsers and Extensions

Desktop browser: Firefox

Firefox is one of the few non-chromium based browsers that has enough of a userbase that it is worth using. It tends to be much nicer to its users than chromium based browsers are.

Adblocker: uBlock Origin

uBlock Origin is the best adblocker there is. It works best on firefox, but is perfectly fine on chrome too.

Android Browser: Mull

Mull is a modified version of Firefox for android. Get uBlock Origin.

Desktop Applications

IDE: Lapce

Lapce is a powerful and good looking IDE, in fact, it's what I'm using to write this right now. (Edit 2023-22-06: The 0.3.0 version has several rendering issues. I reccomend the 0.2.8 version.)

Recording/Streaming: OBS

OBS is just good at what it does, recording and streaming. There is no competition at all.

Video Editor: Kdenlive

Kdenlive may not be the best video editor ever, but it works well and is completely free. As a bonus, it is lightweight enogh to run on computers older than I am, albeit not very well.

Music Player: musikcube

Musikcube is a terminal based music player. That's all it does. It's simple, lightweight, and doesn't look horrible.

Android

Launcher: Discreet Launcher

Discreet Launcher is a simple, light, and good looking launcher. Pair it with an icon pack like Arcticons You for a super clean looking home screen.

YouTube: ReVanced

Although ReVanced is a bit complicated to install, it is worth it for the improved experience of youtube and other apps, including but not limited to removing advertisments.

Maps: Organic Maps

Organic Maps is a simple offline maps application that uses OpenStreetMap data.

Notes: Quillnote

Quillnote is a notes app that supports markdown formatting.

Music: Auxio

Auxio is a music player.

SMS: QKSMS

QKSMS works and looks good.

Gallery: Aves

Another simple app that works well and looks good.
